LET US START BY SAYING THAT REAL 'ZERO-WASTE' DOESN'T EXIST.

We are not perfect. You aren't either.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't aim to be better. Or that our small choices don't add up to big change.

We found that the words 'green' or 'sustainable' to describe Everist didn't go far enough. We've designed every aspect of our business to be net-neutral. From our formulas (biodegradable) to our packaging (recyclable) to our supply chain (carbon neutral) we set out to build a business that would have minimal negative impact to our planet and maximal positive impact to you (hello, great hair!).

As we geeked out on packaging materials and carbon credits, here's a couple things we learned along the way.

THE BEAUTY INDUSTY HAS A PLASTIC PROBLEM

The global beauty industry creates 77 billion units of plastic packaging every year. They pretty much all end up in the garbage (only 9% of plastic created is recycled).

The number of shampoo bottles alone thrown out in the United States every year could fill 1,164 football fields.

Plastic takes more than 400 years to degrade, so that bottle of Pantene you used in high school still exists somewhere.

I guess the big question is, where do we think all of this plastic is going to go?
